Frequently Asked Questions
What does a financial coach do?
Financial coaches help their clients make improvements with their personal finances. This includes balancing income and expenses. Typically, a financial coach will help their clients create a plan for thier money and help them reach a big financial goal such as paying down debt, saving for a house or improving thier credit score. Financial coaches motivate their clients and provide specific steps for them to take. If you've struggled to manage your personal finances in the past then financial coaching is for you!
How is Saks of Savings different from credit repair?
Credit repair companies call creditors on your behalf to try and remove items from your credit report that are dragging down your credit score. While a quck fix might sound appealing, these companies can't guarantee that their negotiations with your creditors will be succesful and they don't address your habits that led to your current financial situation. Saks of Savings on the other hand will improve your overall financial health by teaching you the skills to neogtiate with your creditors on your own and will develop a plan for you to save more and pay down debt.
Do I have to live in Baltimore to get financial coaching?
No. Coaching takes place through Zoom, a video conferencing service that is free to use.

Do you approve mortgages or will you help me buy a house?
No. Our financial coaches will explain the mortgage and home buying process, but we are not licensed to sell real estate or provide mortgages. For any questions about mortgage approval or to make an offer on a home, you should consult a mortgage lender/broker or real estate agent licensed in the state you live in. Saks of Savings will be happy to provide you with a referal whenever possible.
Do I need to provide my income, debts, and expenses for financial coaching?
Yes. In order to determine what steps should be taken to get you approved for your mortgage, our coaches need this information to figure out what your current financial situation is. We call this your Financial Snapshot. All of the information for your snapshot will be kept confidential and will only be used to help develop your customized plan. We do not share your personal information with anyone else. If you aren't ready to share your financial information, try a free consultation first to learn about the value of looking at your finances with a coach.
Do you only work with first-time home buyers?
No. While we specialize in helping first-time home buyers we also work with clients who need general help with their finances. This may include, but is not limited to, clients who need support with budgeting, paying off debt, tracking spending, and saving for retirement.
